Brief Bio
Jim Black spends his winters in Vero Beach, Florida and summers on Lake Eden, Vermont. Since his retirement in 2020, he has picked up the pen and become a novelist. Currently he is writing a trilogy titled "Beauty and Grace". His academic career spanned 40 years. He began teaching in 1981 at the University of Connecticut,in the School of Business. His expertise was Computer Information Systems and Quantitative Analysis. In 1987 he joined the faculty of the Vermont State College System. His positions included Professor of Computer Information Systems, Professor of Management, and Chair of the Business Administration Department. His academic areas of interests were Entrepreneurship, Management, Leadership, Web2.0 Technologies, and Programming Languages. He serves on the boads of Lamoille Economic Development Corp., Lamoille Region Workforce Investment Board, and Team Vermont: Entrepreneurship Collaborative. Between 1988 and 2007, he was President of Software Seminars, Inc. His corporate experience includes 5 years with GTE Corporation, where he held several positions ranging from first-line supervisor to long-range planning and forecasting. Educationally, Jim has a Ph.D in Systems Science, M.S. in Mathematics, and B.S. in Psychology, all from Portland State University. Jim is married to the love of his life, Paula Ennis. Between the two, there are 8 children. His hobbies are writing, motorcycles, and working on his lake cabin.

- This is a multi-institution degree. Faculty from several institutions use the Vermont Interactive Television (VIT) system and web based courseware to deliver the program. A typical class would have students from 2 or 3 institutions attend lectures via VIT. Faculty would also use VIT for meetings. The program was the first of its kind in Vermont.
- 2001 Developed Curriculum for Microsoft Certifications, Johnson State College.
- This was a collaboration between private enterprise and higher education to provide a Bachelor’s degree that was state of the art, responsive to technological innovations.
